3D Graphics Tutorial - 3ds Max Tutorial. Basic Abstract

In this tutorial I will show you a couple of the main modifiers of 3ds Max. I do not show you everything, 3ds Max has many modifiers and I encourage you to try out ones other then those which I will show you here. This tutorial will use the Squeeze, Stretch and Bend modifiers, similar to those in C4d. Thank You.

1: Open your 3ds Max and select Extended Parameters, as show below.

2: Select the tortus knot, and make one.

3: Now move to the modifiers area, as shown below. Notice the tabs it is the second tab from the left.

4: If you look you will see Parameters, these are for the tortus knot, now you can modifies these numbers to make a great deal of effects, here are my settings.

5: Now it is time to start adding my modifiers. To get to the modifiers you must use the pull down menu, I have shown you how to use it, in this example I choose Squeeze.

6: Now you can change the parameters for the squeeze modifier, like so, my settings were

7: Now you see a shape beginning to take form. Next I have decided to use the Stretch modifier it is in the same list as Squeeze, my settings were

8: Finally I am going to add my last modifier, I have choosen Bend. Here are my settings.

9: Now you have a shape suitable for a solid abstract render. All that is left is to add a material and render. But first, select F10, to view the render dialog. Select the raytracer renderer, as shown below….”note visist http://www4.discreet.com/mentalray/ to see a tutorial on how to set up this renderer. And use its dynamic properties”

10: Now it is time to go and choose a material, press “M” and this dialog will come up you will be selecting the “Get Materials” Option as shown below.

11: Here is the material I choose, and the settings I used. Changing settings will change the render.
