| This Tutorial will show you how to corrode some text. |

| |
| 1.) Create a New File. Can be any size on a white
background at 72 dpi. |
| |
| 2.) In the Layers palette... click on the
Channels tab. Now, add an Alpha channel by clicking button
located next to trash can (bottom of palette). |

| 3.) Select the Text tool and enter something
in the work area. (Large and bold preferably.) |

| 4.) In the Channels palette... click on
the Alpha channel to create the selection. Now, right-click the
Alpha channel and click on Duplicate channel. |

| 5.) Deselect the type with (Ctrl + D).
Go to Filter > Pixelate > Mezzotint. (When
the palette appears, select Grainy Dots and hit OK.) |

| Follow with (Ctrl + F) to apply the effect
again if neccessary to get the desired effect as below: |

| 6.) In the Channels palette, let's rename
the Alpha channels. (double- click the names to change.) Change
to mezzotint and clear accordingly as below: |

| 7.) Switch back to the Layers palette
by clicking the Layers tab. Now create a New Layer by
clicking button next to trash can (bottom of palette). Image will
disappear but don't worry, we have saved it as a selection. |

| 8.) Go to Select > Load Selection
and choose Mezzotint under the channel drop down then hit OK. |

| Now, once again Select > Load Selection
and this time choose Clear. Check the Invert and Subtract
from Selection then hit OK. |

| Image should now look similar with selection active. |
| |

| |
| 9.) Select color of your choice and fill (Alt
+ Backspace). Now, (Ctrl + D) to deselect. Here,
you want to mess up the text a little further. Select the Eraser
from the Tool palette and using different size brushes, click some
bullet holes randomly across the text. |

| 10.) In the Layers palette... (Ctrl
+ Click) on the text layer to put back the selection. Now, let's
paint our image to create several colors. Select the Paint Brush Tool
and select a brush you would like to work with. (I used one from the Default
set, and varied the opacity and colors as I worked.) Use (Ctrl
+ D) to deselect when finished. |

| 11.) Final Step, In the Layers palette...
click the Add a Layer Style button (located bottom left) and go
to Drop Shadow. (Only adjustment I made was reduced Distance
to 3. Hit OK and compare work to top of page. |
